The Ortega’s

Hello and welcome to our website! My name is Megan. My husband, Matthew and I have been involved both as lay ministers and as vocational ministers in the local church for many years. Over the years, I found myself feeling powerless to respond to the needs presented to me in the ministry setting. I would pray for the same person for the same reason over and over. But I didn’t see any changes. I had this hunger to see lives actually TRANSFORMED by the gospel of Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit. I wanted my own life to be transformed. I follow a man named Andy Reese on FaceBook, and one day I saw he had written a book called Freedom Tools. The back cover literally said,

What do you say to someone who is hurting? How many times in everyday conversation do we struggle to comfort others in a troubled world? Christians should be the ‘first responders’ say Andy Reese and Jennifer Barnett, yet we lack the tools and confidence to reach out. We end up frustrated by our own inability to connect meaningfully. But what would happen if we did have the courage to speak out in love? In these pages, Andy and Jennifer give you the simple tools to do just that. You can fill even your most casual conversations with the gentle yet transforming power of Jesus Christ.” Here is what you need to bring peace, give grace, and help others receive a renewal.

After I read this, I was all like, “YES! A THOUSAND TIMES YES!! I want this for myself,  and I want it to flow out of me and onto other people!!!!” And so that’s how Freedom Prayer Brazos Valley was formed. Together with my husband Matthew, Jess Rios, and our friend, Kim Johnson, we found out how to be trained in Freedom Prayer techniques by the team at Cross Bridge Church in San Antonio, Texas. Ever since September 2015, we have been spreading freedom in the Brazos Valley, starting with ourselves. The apostle Paul said, “It is for freedom that Christ set us free!” And we have made it our personal mission to spread the freedom of Jesus Christ as far as we possibly can. Check us out, and please don’t hesitate to contact us to schedule an appointment or answer any questions you may have.

Love and blessings,

-Megan

What does The Appointment Look Like?

Within a more formal setting Freedom Prayer appointments typically involve 2-3 Freedom Prayer team members and the participant who is seeking prayer. The appointments or sessions usually last 1-3 hours depending on the issues that the individual wants to address. While it is called Freedom Prayer, much of our time is spent talking together, listening, and walking through forgiving, confessing, etc. Sessions are gentle, confidential, friendly, relaxed and informal.

A session may begin as simply as, “Why are you here today?” or “Let’s ask the Lord what He wants to address and wait on Him to lead us.”

The role of the individual is simple – he or she is just the reporter of what they are feeling, seeing, hearing or sensing. We rely on God to lead each session and often stop and ask Him what He thinks. It is low pressure because our goal is simple – to do only what God wants done in any session – not to have to hit a homerun and cover what we think needs to happen.

One prayer team member will act as the lead in the appointment, generally giving a road map as the team hears the Lord and helping the individual to find words and clarify thoughts and responses to what the Lord is doing. Another prayer team member will act as the 2nd, listening to the Lord for greater insight and tag teaming the direction of the time. Another prayer team member will act as the intercessor, listening and writing quietly on behalf of all in the room. Often there is focused intercession prior to the appointment by the team in seeking the Lord on the individual’s behalf. Applicable areas are covered such as forgiveness, repentance, identifying and removing lies, confession of sin, dealing with ungodly beliefs, seeking God’s truth and presence, and blessing and greater deposits of His Holy Spirit. Everyone, including the individual, is an active participant.

Scripture is clear that the enemy takes advantage of our wounds and sin to hold us in bondage, to create a “stronghold” which is an area within us and our lives where God’s peaceful kingdom is not supreme. He is able to gain access at specific points in time through opportunities – we sometimes call them “open doors.” When we find those doors and close them, we remove any right of access. Most often significant and immediate measures of freedom and liberty are experienced in the prayer appointment, with an increase of freedom continuing long after the initial prayer time. Almost unanimously most participants cite the abundance of love, grace and care they felt from their team and wish to continue to seek the Lord in the same manner again if applicable.

 Statement of Faith

THE BIBLE

The Bible is God’s revelation to humanity; the infallible, authoritative rule of faith and conduct (2 Timothy 3:15-17; Hebrews 4:12).

THE TRINITY

Our Creator and King eternally exists as one God in three persons - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:26; Matthew 28:19; John 1:1-3; Hebrews 1:1-3).

JESUS

The Heavenly Father sent His Son, Jesus, who being fully God and fully man became the substitute. He allowed himself to be overcome by the full force of Satan’s violence on the cross. After being buried, He was bodily resurrected on the third day. (Isaiah 7:14, 9:7; Luke 1:26-38, 2:1-20, 24:1-53; Romans 4:25; 5:6-8; 1 Corinthians 15:1-57).

MANKIND

Humanity was formed in God’s image to reflect His authority and purposes in the earth (Genesis 1:26-28; 2:7; Psalm 8:4-8; 115:16). Nevertheless, creation rebelled against the creator (Genesis 3:1-24). Sin not only opened the door to evil, it created a separation from God that is impossible for man to overcome (Romans 5:12-14; Ephesians 2:3).

SALVATION

The Kingdom of God came in the ministry of the Messiah. It continues to come in the ministry of the Holy Spirit through the Church, and will be consummated at the literal, physical return of Jesus (Isaiah 9:7-8; Matthew 10:7-8; Mark 1:14-15; Luke 11:20; Romans 5:17; 2 Timothy 2:11-12) At the final judgment, God will resurrect the righteous and transform all of creation (Romans 2:4-10; 1 Corinthians 15:26; Philippians 3:21; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18). Satan and all who have rejected God’s love will be cast into the lake of fire (Matthew 13:41; John 12:31; Revelation 19:20-21; 20:10,14). Everything within all the cosmos will be made new (2 Corinthians 5:17; Hebrews 12:27; Revelation 21:5).
